Boys & Girls Club salutes D-backs' generosity

Fundraiser honors 13 finalists for 2018 Youth of Year award

For their charitable efforts, including $50 million in giving over their 20-year franchise history, the D-backs have been pillars in the Phoenix community, particularly among young fans. On Saturday, the club was honored at the Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix "Today's Kids, Tomorrow's Stars" fundraiser.
The event, which was held at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, celebrated 13 youth finalists for the 2018 Youth of the Year award. Among the club's current contingent who were scheduled to attend included manager Torey Lovullo, , Zack Greinke, Chris Owings and . Hall of Famer and D-backs special assistant to the president and CEO Randy Johnson also was in attendance, as was former star Luis Gonzalez, now the D-backs' senior adviser to the president and CEO.
D-backs president and CEO Derrick Hall also was on hand, along with Ken Kendrick, the D-backs' managing general partner.

The finalists are each representing one of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix Clubhouses, including the MLB All-Star D-backs branch. This year's event incorporated unique baseball elements, including an interview hosted by Hall and local broadcaster Jody Jackson with Gonzalez, who told his story about growing up a Boys & Girls Club member.
